Do you have pain concentrated near your forehead or upper teeth? Does your head feel heavy and do you feel fatigued? These are all symptoms of sinusitis, inflammation or infection of the tissue lining your sinuses.

Sinusitis is usually caused by allergies, colds, flus, too much dairy consumption, and irritation from pollution. Fortunately, there are foods you can eat that help treat sinusitis.

Consuming excessive dairy products can lead to excess production of mucus in the sinuses, further aggravating your sinusitis. Chocolate, eggs, and flour products also encourage excessive mucus production. When you have sinusitis, eat these foods instead.

Whole Grains, Lentils, Beans, Steamed Vegetables

These foods contain complex carbohydrates and are generally low in sugar content. Sugary foods also promote excessive mucus production. Switch out your usual diet for these healthy alternatives to discourage mucus buildup in your sinuses.

Cayenne Pepper, Onion, Garlic, Horseradish

These herbs remove excess mucus and clear your sinuses.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

GSE is a natural antibiotic, antifungal, and antiviral. Consuming it can help your immune system battle the pathogens causing your sinusitis. Alternatively, you can use a GSE nasal spray and directly treat your sinuses with GSE’s antiseptic properties.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix one-to-two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in six ounces of water. Drink this solution three times daily to loosen congestion.

Teas and Soups

Green tea and warm soups can clear your congestion. They’ll also keep you hydrated.

Sinusitis can be painful and make you unproductive. But, eating these foods decreases your mucus production and supports your body’s defenses against sinusitis-causing pathogens. If your symptoms persist or worsen, see your physician.
